The Problem With Analogue Pads

 Added:02.10.05 - Updated:23.10.05
I was playing Need For Speed III the other day, with my cousin and his friend. Well I had my turn and I also had my joypad plugged in. I use an Adaptoid to connect my N64 pad to the PC and that's what we were using. Everything was working fine and I was taking gentle corners with a slight push on the stick and sharp corners with a big push on the stick, basically using the analogue control to my advantage. It then came to my cousin's friend's turn... I had the most painful experience watching someone using an analogue stick ever!

At first I thought he was just getting used to the sensitivity... but I quite soon realised that he really was using analogue control as if it were digital! Sharp corners were fine, but gentle corners were winding me up to the point of wanting to stop him from playing. I'm serious! When a gentle corner came up he would push the stick to the extreme left or right, then back to the centre, extreme left, centre... etc. And this is how he got round the corner.

Now you may say that he was still managing to get round the corners ok and still have fun playing the game. Well he may have been having fun... but it didn't look like it with the amount of times his "cornering technique" got him into trouble... The point I'm making is this: If you are going to neglect the benefits of analogue control... then neglect using analogue controls all together!
